The short version: Zentra VPN does not require an account. We do not log the websites you visit, the content of your traffic or your DNS queries. We never sell your data and we don't show ads. The App uses a small number of services to load the server list, show your current IP, run speed tests and report crashes. Each is listed below.
1. Who we are
Zentra VPN is developed and published by KN Apps Studio (Kartik Nakrani), an independent app developer based in India. For any privacy question or request, contact us at help@knappsstudio.com.
2. Our no-logs commitment
A VPN only protects your privacy if the VPN provider respects it. While you are connected to Zentra VPN, we do not monitor, record or store:
- the websites, services or apps you visit or use;
- the content of your traffic, including anything you send or receive;
- your DNS queries;
- a history of your browsing or connection activity linked to you.
To keep the Service running, our VPN servers may process limited, temporary technical data such as the number of active connections, server load and connection errors. This data is used only to operate, secure and troubleshoot the servers and is not used to identify you or your online activity.
3. Information we don't collect
- No account information. There is no sign-up, so we don't ask for your name, email address, phone number or password.
- No payment information. Zentra VPN 1.0 is free. If paid features are added later, payments will be handled by Apple and we will never see your card details.
- No contacts, photos, files, location permission or microphone access. The App only reads a file if you explicitly choose one.
- No advertising identifiers and no cross-app tracking.
4. Information the App processes
a) Connecting to the VPN
When you connect, your Mac opens an encrypted IKEv2 tunnel to the server you choose, using connection details delivered with the server list. Like any internet connection, our server necessarily sees your real IP address while you are connected, so it can route your traffic back to you. This is processed in memory to provide the connection and is not written to an activity log.
The VPN configuration is created by macOS with your permission and is stored by macOS in System Settings › VPN. You can remove it there at any time, or from the App's Settings › Reset VPN profile.
b) Server list
The App downloads the list of available servers (server name, country, address and connection details) from Google Firebase Realtime Database. A copy is cached on your Mac so the App can start quickly and work if the list is temporarily unavailable. Google, as the provider, receives standard technical information for this request, such as your IP address.
c) Latency measurement
To pick the fastest server, the App measures how long it takes to reach each server with a short network handshake made directly from your Mac. The results stay on your Mac.
d) Your public IP address and approximate location
To show you whether you are protected, the App displays your current public IP address and its approximate city and country. It gets this by requesting the public service ipwho.is, which sees the IP address the request comes from (your real IP when disconnected, or the VPN server's IP when connected). The result is shown in the App and is not sent to us.
e) Speed test
When you run a speed test, the App measures ping, jitter, download and upload speed against Cloudflare's public speed test service (speed.cloudflare.com). Cloudflare receives your IP address and the test traffic, as with any website. Your results are saved only on your Mac so you can see your history; you can clear them in Settings.
f) Crash reports and anonymous usage statistics
We use Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase to find bugs and understand, in aggregate, how the App is used. These may collect:
- crash logs and stack traces, the App version and build, macOS version and Mac model;
- an app-instance identifier generated by Firebase (not your name, email or Apple ID);
- basic usage events, such as the App opening or a feature being used.
This information is not linked to your identity or to the websites you visit, is not used for advertising, and is never sold.
g) Information stored only on your Mac
Your preferences (favorite and recent locations, “Launch at login”, “Connect on launch”, “Show in menu bar”), your speed test history and the cached server list are stored locally on your Mac. We cannot access them. Deleting the App removes them.
h) When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include (for example, the App's feedback email includes your App and macOS version). We use it only to reply and to improve the App.
5. How we use information
- To provide the VPN connection and show you your connection status.
- To choose and list servers and measure their speed.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse and keep servers running reliably.
- To fix crashes and improve the App.
- To answer your support requests.
- To meet legal obligations.
Where the law requires a legal basis (for example, under the GDPR), we rely on performing our service to you, our legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable service, and your consent, which you give on the App's first-run privacy screen.
6. What we never do
- We never sell, rent or trade your personal information.
- We never use your data for targeted advertising, and the App shows no ads.
- We never inject ads or trackers into your traffic.
- We never share your browsing activity, because we don't have it.
7. Third-party services
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase Realtime Database | Delivers the server list | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Firebase Crashlytics | Crash reporting | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | Anonymous usage statistics | policies.google.com/privacy |
| ipwho.is | Shows your public IP and approximate location | ipwho.is |
| Cloudflare Speed Test | Speed test measurements | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| Cloud hosting providers | Run our VPN servers | Operated under our instructions |
| Apple | App distribution and the macOS VPN framework | apple.com/legal/privacy |
8. Data retention
- Browsing activity: never recorded, so never retained.
- Temporary server data: kept only as long as needed to operate and troubleshoot the servers, and deleted on a rolling basis.
- Crash reports: kept for up to 90 days.
- Anonymous usage statistics: kept for up to 14 months.
- Support emails: kept as long as needed to help you, then deleted.
- Data on your Mac: kept until you clear it or delete the App.
9. Security
Your traffic through Zentra VPN is encrypted with IKEv2 using AES-256 encryption, SHA-256 integrity and Diffie-Hellman group 14. The App is sandboxed by macOS and communicates with our services over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect the Service and fix issues quickly.
10. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act, or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
Because we don't use accounts, we hold very little that can be linked to you. You can:
- clear speed test history and recent locations in Settings;
- remove the VPN profile in Settings › Reset VPN profile or in System Settings › VPN;
- delete the App to remove all locally stored data;
- email help@knappsstudio.com for any other request. We'll respond within 30 days.
11. Children's privacy
Zentra VPN is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. International transfers
We are based in India, and our service providers and VPN servers are located in several countries. Your information may therefore be processed outside your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as our providers' standard contractual clauses.
13. Law enforcement requests
We comply with valid legal requests where the law requires us to. Because we don't keep activity logs, we have no record of the websites you visit or the content of your traffic to hand over.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. We will change the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the App. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the updated policy.
